On Jan. 22, the Santa Monica City Council adopted an ordinance regarding the regulation of beach and water activities. For the preceding three years, SPF has been lucky enough to win a lottery for a beach camp permit - no kidding. As we understand it at this time, there may or may not be permits of this kind any longer, but rather contractual arrangements with the City and/or Open Space Management. This means that they will send a Request For Proposal to interested parties such as SPF, who will respond with a Proposal if they are interested.
At this time, we do not know any of the conditions that they will require but we expect to know within about 30 days from January 17th, according to a letter from OSM that we received on that date. Following the RFP and Proposal process, the City/OSM will choose the vendor(s). Realistically, this will all take time, so our best guess is mid-March before we will know if there will be a SPF Beach Camp in 2008.
